Biography
Jeanette A. Michael

Executive Director

 

Jeanette A. Michael is the Executive Director of the DC Lottery and Charitable Games Control Board. Ms. Michael received a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Mahattanville College in Purchase, New York in 1972, and a Juris Doctor degree from George Washington University Law School in Washington, DC in 1975. She is a certified public manager and a member in good standing with the District of Columbia Bar.

A native New Yorker, Ms. Michael has made Washington, DC her home. She has dedicated most of her career to public service in the District of Columbia. Ms. Michael served on a myriad of District of Columbia government boards and commissions before becoming the DC Lottery’s first General Counsel. After leaving the DC Lottery in 1987, she served as Deputy Director of the City’s Department of Human Services, and as a supervisory attorney in the Office of the Corporation Counsel. Prior to taking a two-year sabbatical, she was Chief of Staff to the former mayor, Marion Barry, Jr. On September 10, 2001, she returned to the DC Lottery as Deputy Director of Operations after serving as a program consultant for eight months with the Greater Washington Urban League. Ms. Michael was appointed Executive Director of the DC Lottery in May 2001.

Ms. Michael is a recipient of many community and government awards, including: the Excellence in Public Service Award (1999) from the DC Chapter of the National Forum for Black Public Administrators; Meritorious Public Service (1998) and Lottery Service Awards (1987), as well as a Certificate of Merit (1998) from the DC Government, and Extraordinary Service to the Law School (1995), Belva Lockwood (1992), and General Alumni Association Service Achievement (1991) Awards from George Washington University.
